Microchipping

A microchip is a rice grain sized capsule that houses a computer chip which stores information about your dog. Each chip has a unique code specific to your pet. Microchips are very reliable, non-alterable and will last a lifetime.

Why is it a good idea to microchip my dog?

Microchipping ensures that we can reconnect you with your lost friend. When a dog is taken into a shelter, city pound or vet clinic, the first part of the intake is scanning for a microchip. Your dog’s unique code is then entered into a database, where we can find your contact information.

How does microchipping work and is it safe for my dog?

Before installment, the microchip is scanned to ensure it can be scanned properly. Using a specially designed syringe, the chip is injected between the dog’s shoulder blades in a pocket of loose skin. We then scan again to ensure the microchip is placed successfully. It takes one business day for the contact information you provided to be assigned to the dog’s new code. After that, you’re set for life!

How much does it cost to microchip a dog?

Microchipping is a one-time fee. We encourage this to be done during a surgical procedure (spay, neuter, etc.) However, we are happy to schedule a regular appointment as well.
